Kevin McCarthy is barely hanging on to his bid for House Speaker, as many people do not want him. At time of writing, he’s gone through six votes and lost every time.
He is not gaining any votes.
If he is going to win, they are going to have to do a different kind of vote, and he would still go in without any kind of mandate, with many people trying to dislodge him.
There are a lot of things wrong with Kevin McCarthy. He is a total swamp creature who will go along with literally anything the donors (Jews, primarily) tell him to go along with. He’s been a party to every major Democrat scheme, including all of those related to big spending (which is one of the single things Republicans are supposed to stand up against).
However, the biggest and most immediate issue with McCarthy is that he is vowing to give infinity money to the Ukraine, in order to fight an endless war to try to do regime change in Russia. Obviously, McCarthy doesn’t know anything about Eastern Europe or post-Soviet border disputes – he’s just a moron who does what he’s told.
Presumably, he could get his votes if he vowed to veto any and all money for the Ukraine. It is a very simple promise, which shouldn’t mean much. Polls show that only 29% of Republicans believe in the theory that the United States has an “obligation” to help the Ukraine fight its infinity border skirmish.
Political Insider, October 25, 2022:
A new poll indicates voters are drifting away from our elected officials’ insistence that it is America’s job to defend and protect Ukraine, especially when it affects gas prices and inflation.
A Morning Consult poll released on Monday shows only 42% believe it’s the United States’ role to help Ukraine in their conflict with Russia – including just 29% of Republicans and 38% of independents.
McCarthy certainly would not be violating the will of the people by saying “no more money to Zelensky.”
Therefore, his refusal to make such a pledge is just proof that he is bought and paid for by the big money interests who want to make the Ukraine the priority of American taxpayers. McCarthy can’t make such a vow, as it would undermine his entire base of support among the lobbyist class.
Instead of doing that, he is jockeying around various procedural avenues, offering procedural changes to the dissenters. But that is useless. No one cares about any of that. People care about McCarthy’s policies, and they want him to change these policies.
He could place people on committees that would be able to prevent the funding of the Ukraine. He could just make an outright pledge to stop doing this. But he can’t and he won’t, and that is why it is better to just let a Democrat take the Speakership.
