I’m Pretty Sure Canceling the State of the Union was Stupid

President Trump isn’t doing a State of the Union speech.

I don’t agree with surrendering the State of the Union for the first time in American history because for the first time in American history the Speaker of the House told you you couldn’t give it in the House.

I think the President should have held it in the Senate.

The first state of the Union was given in New York by Uncle George. So there is a precedent for not doing it in the House.

There is also precedent for simply writing the report, which was actually what was usually done before the advent of radio. So he could have just published an essay on Twitter. That would kind of mock the entire situation in a clever way.

But simply saying “because Nancy said no, I won’t do it” doesn’t look good at all, especially in the middle of this big thing.

The media is already gloating that this is a win for them.

Just imagine casually saying that the media declares anything that harms the President a “win” for themselves.

Anyway.

I don’t know if they’re right or what this even means really. Maybe it doesn’t even matter. But they can successfully spin it as a win, so it does matter, so Trump shouldn’t have done this.

I think he should have gone to the border and done it outside with wetbacks carrying Honduran flags scurrying like plague-rats over the shitty broken-down fence in the background.

Right now, he’s saying he’s going to do some “alternative” speech.

Reuters:

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would do an alternative event to the traditional State of the Union address before the U.S. Congress after House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent him a letter that her chamber would not sign off on the annual speech during the partial government shutdown.

“It’s a disgrace,” Trump said of Pelosi’s decision to block the address, initially scheduled for next Tuesday, during a White House meeting on border security.

I don’t know why he doesn’t just call the speech “State of the Union.” That’s all it actually amounts to – a speech with a specific title that starts with “the state of our union.”

And he shouldn’t start with “strong.”

He should start with: “The state of our union is they’ve got a lot of problems and they’re bringing those problems with them. They’re bringing crime, they’re bringing drugs, they’re rapists.”

And then he should start talking about how Ted Cruz’ dad assassinated JFK.

But the most important thing is that the entire Covington Catholic class is there at this event, whatever it is called.
