This guy is literally a Russian. His whole family lives in Russia, and they are all active supporters of Putin and Russian patriotism.
He could well be a Russian double agent, purposefully ruining the Ukraine military. The intelligence of the West is so botched that it would be very possible that they would put such a person in charge by accident.
He’s totally hated by the military, which is clearly going to lead to various revolts. His master plan is confusing and stupid: he says he’s going to use total defense to conquer new territories.

Ukraine has “transitioned” from offensive operations to strategic defense, General Aleksandr Syrsky has told the German TV channel ZDF in an interview published on Tuesday.
The interview was recorded several days before President Vladimir Zelensky appointed Syrsky commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in place of the sacked General Valery Zaluzhny.
“The war is entering a new stage,” Syrsky told ZDF. “We have transitioned from offensive actions to conducting a defensive operation,” he added, in order to “exhaust the enemy and inflict maximum losses on them, using our fortifications, our technical advantages, unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare systems, and prepared defense lines.”
It’s maybe possible that this would make sense if the Ukraine was the bigger country. However, Russia is a much, much bigger country. The current population of the Ukraine is probably 20 million, while Russia’s is 150 million.
Russia has a lot more soldiers, no matter what.
Russia can take their time taking more territory, and just wear down the Ukrainians.
Switching to defense is effectively an admission of defeat.
The Ukrainian armed forces have turned to aerial and even ground drones to preserve the lives of troops, Syrsky said.
“I’d rather leave a position, but I won’t allow the loss of personnel,” he told the German outlet. He claimed that Russia places “no value” on the lives of its troops, which is reflected by its losses being 7-8 times higher than Ukraine’s – according to Kiev’s estimates, anyway.

The Ukraine’s entire “counteroffensive” last year was a total meat grinder, where they were losing troops to Russia at least 10-1. That was even reported by the Washington Post and New York Times. They were just getting slaughtered trying to cross the river, where Russia was totally dug in and just picking them off.
Multiple Western outlets, from the Washington Post to the New York Times, have highlighted Kiev’s shortage of frontline infantry as well as ammunition in recent weeks. According to the Times, Kiev is facing the very real prospect of “a cascading collapse along the front” unless the US sends military aid very soon.
The need to mobilize another 500,000 Ukrainians to replace the battlefield losses has exposed a rift between Zelensky and Zaluzhny, which resulted in the general’s sacking last week.
There is nowhere to get 500,000 troops, unless they draft women. That’s where they’re at. They’ve already sent anyone they can grab to the front, and millions of men have escaped the country to avoid getting sent into the meat grinder.
Syrsky, the former commander of Ukrainian ground forces, is reportedly reviled by the troops, who consider him a bull-headed “butcher.”
According to Politico, the soldiers have given Syrsky the nickname “General 200” (a reference to the code for killed in action, i.e. ‘General KIA’) because he had sacrificed so many lives in futile attempts to hold and then retake Artyomovsk (known as Bakhmut in Ukraine) last year.

They could have just put some rando no one had ever heard of in charge, and it would have made more sense than putting the hated enemy of the troops in charge.
Everyone in the Ukraine military hated that Bakhmut debacle, and viewed it as a mass human sacrifice for no reason. In fact, that’s what it was. The Russians won, taking many fewer losses. And the losses they took were all a bunch of convicted murderers and thieves from Wagner.
Speaking to ZDF, Syrsky said Ukraine needs to build up domestic weapons and ammunition production to make up for the possible loss of external support.

The general also confirmed that Kiev still considers reaching Ukraine’s 1991 borders as the main victory condition.
“Everything is based on the fact that we must end the war by reaching our borders. Other options are not considered because we simply have no other way out,” he said.
That’s why they put him in charge. They can’t find anyone competent who will commit to “we’re going to take back Crimea.” It’s just too stupid.
“We’re switching to absolute defensive posture so we can invade Russia and take huge portions of their territory” is retarded. You don’t have to be a military expert to understand how retarded that is. It doesn’t even make any sense.
