The Justice Department is accusing TikTok of violating privacy laws by allowing children under 13 to create accounts and interact with adults. The lawsuit claims TikTok collected and kept kids’ personal information without parental consent and didn’t implement proper safeguards. pic.twitter.com/rY8UJmGN0v

WHY ARE CHILDREN UNDER 13 ON THE APP IF IT’S BAD FOR THEM??
How is this not the responsibility of the parents?
Remember when Marilyn Manson and Eminem were getting blamed for the problems of boomers’ kids? Because boomers didn’t think they were responsible for their own kids, they thought it was the job of the TV to raise them?
Parents are stupid and lazy and they don’t really care about their own children.
The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit Friday against TikTok and parent company ByteDance for failing to protect children’s privacy on the social media app as the Biden administration continues its crackdown on the social media site.
The government said TikTok violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act that requires services aimed at children to obtain parental consent to collect personal information from users under age 13.
The Chinese-owned short-video platform boasts around 170 million U.S. users, and is currently fighting a new law that would force ByteDance to divest TikTok’s U.S. assets by Jan. 19 or face a ban.
The lawsuit is the latest U.S. action against TikTok and its Chinese parent over fears the company improperly collects vast amounts of data on Americans for the Chinese government, while influencing content in a way that could harm Americans.
The suit, which was joined by the Federal Trade Commission, said it was aimed at putting an end “to TikTok’s unlawful massive-scale invasions of children’s privacy.”
The idea that TikTok is worse than Instagram or Facebook is retarded. I’m sure this is all “bad for the kids,” but what does that even imply?
Remember when they did that whole thing that cigarettes were bad for the kids, and then said that Camel cigarettes were especially bad for the kids, because Joe Camel was so cool no child could resist his charms?
Maybe this is sort of like that, I guess?
But… it’s actually just because:
- US tech companies are complaining to their pawns in Congress that they don’t like the competition from TikTok, and
- TikTok allows videos from Gaza to go viral
Various congressrats wanted to ban TikTok over the first issue, but that didn’t work. Then the second issue popped up, and the whole government leaped into action.
It’s not especially complicated.
Why do US politicians want to ban TikTok? Because it exposed how America’s CCP — the Confederacy of Criminals Party aka US Congress — funneled trillions into wars and genocide in Palestine while neglecting to modernize US infrastructure and auto industry which are both collapsing https://t.co/fl2ciRqoQP

TikTok is now the top educational tool for Americans/GenZ, peeling back the curtain on war crimes and human rights abuses US has been committing in Palestine — much of which was masked with help of Hollywood which distracted with shiny blockbusters and fake “reality” shows. https://t.co/jOTnILxMIo

Anyway, this TikTok “save the children” suit comes at the same time as they’re trying to force through a mass censorship bill to “save the children.”
My opinion is the same as it always was: “Fuck them kids.”
To put it less vulgarly: “Your kids are not my problem, ma’am.”
You could ban basically anything under the premise of “kids could hurt themselves with this.”
It’s dumb.
Kids’ internet use is the same thing as kids’ smoking habits: this is the problem of the parents.
Frankly, it’s disgusting that these women go out and say “taking care of my kids is everyone’s problem.”
They’re your kids, bitch.
If you don’t want them smoking or giving all their private information to Chinese communists or whatever the hell we’re talking about here, you stop them from doing that. You’re their parent. They’re not my kids and this is not my problem.
