Investigators think 54-year-old Sheila Johnson was killed Saturday night by a burglar whom she surprised at an auction barn off of Mansfield Highway.
The owner of For A Good Auction Barn said that Johnson always kept a .22 caliber rifle and a .30 caliber rifle for security purposes.
Johnson was sitting in an auction perch watching a movie Saturday night on her break. She was there late, preparing for an upcoming auction.
Multiple bullet holes throughout the business mark what appears to have been a shootout with an intruder, and the business’ owner says he thinks at least one bullet hole came from Johnson.
Johnson was shot several times and was found the next morning.
The Auction Barn has been the target of burglars four times since December.
Johnson had worked there since it opened in 2000.
Her family was mostly in Kansas, so the people she interacted with at work treated her like family.
“She was kindhearted and she always helped us unload the stuff and set it up,” said Greg Walker, an auction client who knew Johnson.
The owner says there were surveillance cameras in the store that caught video of the shooting.
Albert Bledsoe, who knew Johnson, is heartbroken. Johnson was the woman he knew as the hardest working person at the For A Good Auction Barn.
“It’s unbelievable that anybody would want to hurt her,” said Bledsoe. “Makes no sense.”
FOX 4 called Fort Worth police to ask about a possible suspect or a description from the video, but they couldn’t release any more information on the investigation.
