Wow.
Talk about a brazen lie.
Paul Manafort’s three passports show two visits to England in 2010 and 2012, aiding his denial of a Guardian newspaper story that claimed he met secretly with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in 2013, 2015 and 2016 in London.
A review of Manafort’s passports since 2008 shows he entered Heathrow Airport on two occasions. There are no other stamps for arriving in Great Britain.
Blown. The. Fuck. Out.
It is conceivable that Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, could have entered from a European country and not received a stamp. But a Manafort representative told The Washington Times that Manafort has only made those two visits to England since 2008. The source said a libel suit against The Guardian is under discussion.
Two of his passports were entered as evidence at his tax evasion trial. The Times acquired a copy of his third passport on Thursday.
Remember kids, successful people make a habit of collecting passports.
The liberal Guardian newspaper on Tuesday claimed that Manafort in 2013, 2015 and the spring of 2016 met with Mr. Assange, WikiLeaks chief, in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. The story sited “sources.”
WikiLeaks immediately denounced The Guardian story as a hoax and said it planned to raise money to file a libel suit.
Glen Greenwald – who appears to have a thing for Brazilian kids – had a good take on the Fake News story.
1/ Why do attacks on the US media – calling it "Fake News" – resonate so widely? Because of utterly fabricated and reckless articles like this one from @politico, by a former *CIA officer allowed to write under a "pen name"*. The whole thing is a fraud: https://t.co/kGRsiOXHHN

And a lot of other surprisingly woke takes on his Twitter wall…
What can I say? Politics makes for strange… bed-fellows.
He links a Politico story that’s got a pretty woke take on what appears to be the Guardian just straight up making a story up out of thin air to tie Trump’s man to Assange and from Assange (who, remember the MSM has declared to be a Russian agent) to Putin, thereby squaring the circle that is the Russian Collusion Kookspiracy.
A bombshell report in the Guardian on Tuesday claims Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, met directly with Julian Assange, the head of WikiLeaks, several times in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
If true, the ramifications are immense. It means the guy running Trump’s campaign met directly with the head of the organization that served as a tool of Russia’s intelligence services, distributing stolen Democratic emails in an effort to influence the U.S. presidential election. It could be the proverbial smoking gun that shows Trump’s campaign knew it was receiving help from Russian intelligence services and perhaps even aided the operation.
Luke Harding and Dan Collyns, the reporters behind the Guardian story, do not name their sources, although they claim to have multiple, and they write that they have seen an internal document from Ecuador’s intelligence service listing “Paul Manaford [sic]” as a visitor to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. Manafort, for his part, has called the Guardian’s report “totally false and deliberately libelous.” And White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “Certainly I remain confident in the White House’s assertion that the president was involved in no wrongdoing, was not involved in any collusion.”
While the immediate reaction to the story was a collective “Wow!”, it is fair to take a step back and remain wary. Rather than being the bombshell smoking gun that directly connects the Trump campaign to WikiLeaks, perhaps the report is something else entirely: a disinformation campaign. Is it possible someone planted this story as a means to discredit the journalists?
Well gee, there it is.
The 4D chess meme – but coming from the Left this time.
And it gets better:
A number of parties in the Trump-Russia circus have an interest in discrediting the media. Russian President Vladimir Putin has solidified his power in Russia by systematically quashing the free press and controlling the message through friendly media outlets, including the likes of RT and Sputnik. Trump, too, has consistently shouted “Fake News!” at any story he doesn’t like and has made it a theme of late to refer to the media as “the enemy of the people,” a term that has been used by dictators throughout time, including to devastating effect by Joseph Stalin.
So now, even if a neo-liberal newspaper completely discredits itself and gets called out on it, the media will simply say that the information given to them was actual Russian disinformation designed to make the media look stupid, and get people to lose faith in the sacred guardians of Democracy – the journalist class.
They’ve really covered their bases here, haven’t they?
Now they can basically print whatever they want about Russian sleeper agents stealing presidencies and if they get caught lying and making up sources, they can turn right around and blame Russian disinformation for making them lie.
Wow.
Even I have to say: that’s impressive.
Let’s give credit where credit is due.
It’s a perfect system – lying and whenever they get caught it just reenforces the lies.
Literally invincible.
If they manage to sell this line of reasoning to the American and British public, then they’re really got all their bases covered.
In which case, the key question regarding WWIII becomes when not if.
