As ISIS defeat at the hands of Russia and the Syrian government seems imminent, operatives strike out against the civilian population in Europe as well as former financial backers.
The latest such strike is against the Mecca Grand Mosque, as a suicide bomber tries to liberate the world of some future Moslem migrants. In an event which would have made a truly grand finale to this year’s Ramadan Bomb-a-Thon, the attacker instead took down eleven targets at a different location.
Authorities in Saudi Arabia have foiled a “terrorist action” targeting the Grand Mosque in Mecca, according to officials.
The Saudi interior ministry said in a statement on Friday that a man who planned to attack the mosque blew himself up when security forces surrounded a house in Mecca where he was hiding.
At least 11 people, including five policemen, were wounded in the collapse of a three-storey building where the suspect had barricaded himself, the ministry said.
Five other people, including one woman, were detained during the operation, it added.
Unsurprisingly, this is not the first time Saudis have been attacked, according to this delightful Wikipedia page, the last couple of years has been a pretty tumultuous time for the Wahhabist sandpeople, with numerous incidents of enrichment by the Religion of Peace. The most noteworthy of these is the death of four security officers in a 2016 suicide attack near the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

The black stone in the middle of Mecca, the Kaaba, is pre-Islamic in origin, having historically served as a sacred site for all Arabs. As such, the worship of it has more of an ethnic overture than a religious one, even though it is one of the “five pillars of Islam.” The reasoning behind the ISIS attack on this site is related to this, as they consider the pilgrimage a worship of the stone and not of Allah.
