Merkel is distancing herself from this stupid, pointless, endless war she helped foment, which I assume she must view as a stain on her legacy.

Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor from 2005 to 2021, claimed this week that she did all she could to prevent the conflict in Ukraine. The veteran politician stands by her efforts to broker the 2014-2015 ceasefire accords, saying they were agreed in good faith. Months prior to this week’s interview, however, she suggested that the accords were merely a ploy to help Ukraine buy time.
In an interview with Die Zeit’s Chief Editor Giovanni di Lorenzo on Saturday, Merkel said that she’d “tried with what was at my disposal to prevent” the current Ukraine conflict. Just because these efforts eventually failed does not mean they were misguided, the ex-chancellor insisted, adding that “diplomacy is a necessity.”
The politician defended the Minsk peace process, which was designed to end fighting and progress talks between Kiev and rebels in Donbass, who were among the Ukrainians who rejected the outcome of the 2014 coup in the capital.
In the interview, Merkel also lamented the fact that, at the time, few European nations other than Germany and France were interested in those diplomatic endeavors.
Yeah, she should have blamed the whole thing on Poland. That would have been funny. (And in some ways not totally untrue – if modern Poland looked like modern Belarus, this whole thing would probably be impossible. But you know, Stalin was a very mean daddy. Bad, bad daddy.)
There is initially some sense that you could believe something like this is true. Merkel made deals with Russia which do not make sense if she was part of planning this war (they were stupid deals for Germany regardless, but that’s a whole other issue).
But then you remember that the bitch said she only participated in the Minsk Accords in order to “buy time” for the Ukraine to build up weapons for a war.
So, one or the other things is a lie – either she knew the US was planning a war and was on-board and participated in the Minsk Accords in bad faith, or she was really pushing back on Washington’s push for war.
I don’t really care either way, honestly.
The bitch destroyed Germany and really all of Europe with her “nigger tsunami” policies, and was just generally anti-German and anti-West in her orientation.

Anyway, I can believe she was shocked by the US bombing the pipes, and shocked that they would continue this war after it became clear the Russian state would not collapse, due to a refusal of 85% of the world to support the US plan.
But whatever.
