A jury found a Loveland man guilty of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder after less than five hours of deliberating Friday.
Adrian Guzman, 35, was found guilty of shooting and killing Clarence Westbrook and shooting and seriously injuring Christopher Green in September 2018 outside a Loveland home. First-degree murder is a Class 1 felony. Attempted first-degree murder is a Class 2 felony.
Jurors spent 10 days listening to testimony, observing autopsy and crime scene photos, and watching surveillance footage from the house.
The crux of the September night revolved around a toy helicopter.
In footage from indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras of the Loveland home, which was shown to the jury, Westbrook’s girlfriend Julie Etchison is seen walking into a room and then walking out with the helicopter box on Sept. 27, 2018, the night of the shooting. She and Westbrook, who is seen signaling her to come with him, leave the room and the camera frame, exiting the house.
Moments later, Guzman is seen exiting from an adjacent room, where he had been watching surveillance footage of the home. He was holding a shotgun and followed the two outside.
While the indoor camera is still rolling, two gunshots are heard, followed by screams. The outdoor security camera, which displayed the driveway, did not record the shooting itself. It picked up moments later to show Guzman standing over Westbrook and Green, both lying in the driveway.
