Did Pelosi just go metaphysical on us?
She is claiming that having a job is… meaningless.
Despite fears of a global trade war, U.S. unemployment numbers hit an 18-year low in May.
Businesses added 223,000 jobs in May, up from 159,000 in April, driving the unemployment rate to 3.8 percent.
For women, unemployment fell to 3.6 percent, the lowest since 1953. For black Americans, it hit a record low of 5.9 percent.
Nancy Pelosi, however, is not impressed.
“May’s jobs report shows that strong employment numbers mean little to the families hit with soaring new costs under the Republicans’ watch,” the House Minority Leader wrote in a statement on Friday.
Pelosi argued that Republicans’ “cruel, cynical health care sabotage campaign” is spiking families’ premiums by double digits and the “GOP tax scam” is enriching Big Pharma executives and shareholders instead of lowering prescription drug costs for seniors and sick children.
Okay, so she’s making it a little bit more complex than simply “there is no meaning in work… you are all simply slaves, cogs in the machine of empire.”

I would have been much more interested if she’d said that job growth is meaningless because “you work for your tokens, to buy your trinkets, your lives are meaningless, your materialistic existence an insult to the divine nature of man as a spiritual consciousness meant to live in concert with nature” and then started promoting some kind of post-Buddhist Pol Potian agrarian utopianism.
Eventually, Democrats are going to have to start promoting that. Because the claim that even though Americans have better jobs since Trump but have reduced spending power because of healthcare costs is just a totally obvious lie.
I don’t even know what’s she saying about healthcare – Obamacare is still in place. John McCain sabotaged Trump’s healthcare reform bill. There are rising premiums, but that is a result of Obamacare. Everyone knew that was going to happen. That was the whole complaint when the bill was first passed – that it was going to have slowly skyrocketing premiums.
I remember reading a month ago that the Democrats were going to make Obamacare’s failure a talking point in the midterms, and I thought “surely you jest.”
Their argument is that Trump’s tax cuts cut subsidies for the insurance companies that run Obamacare, but I mean… this gets into a really convoluted and confusing argument, which cannot be put into talking point form. The only thing they can say is “rising premiums” and everyone thinks “yeah well, whose idea was Obamacare?”
And even if they could somehow explain how Obamacare would have worked if the government would have just kept dumping infinity money into it forever, and convince people that this was a good idea, they still would not be able to beat the bottom line reality that rising healthcare premiums are peanuts in comparison to the extra money people are making from better jobs and tax cuts.
It is like, the worst imaginable talking point. And that really speaks to the level of desperation the Democrats are experiencing presently.
I always try to imagine if I was hired as a Democrat advisor what I would tell them to do. And it’s really, really hard.
Their biggest problem is that the least popular positions of Trump are ones that they are obligated to support, due to the fact that their party is run by Jews and (mostly Jewish) big corporate interests.
That is to say, most of the places people are angry with Trump is places where he is losing to the neocon/Democrat/Jewish agenda.
They can’t go full Bernie, because their backers want war, they want free trade. They certainly can’t come out and say “Trump isn’t doing enough to stop immigration.”
But doing the reverse – promoting war and free trade, promoting nonstop immigration – is most of what lost them the 2016 election. So those are not efficient talking points, especially not in a midterm.
The Russia thing is very tired, very unpopular. Shitlibs themselves all now know this is a hoax. They will pay lipservice to it, but overall, it is not an issue they can rally anyone around. Same deal with the whole “racism” chant – it’s very tired. And it’s hard to attack Trump’s personality – something that has been successful, because most people do not like his personality, which is viewed (perhaps not without merit) as abrasive and vulgar – without resorting to “bigoted racist fascist hater.”
The one issue that is gaining some traction, just because they’ve force memed it so hard – and because we have had a rapid series of high profile, mass casualty school shootings – is gun control. That is traditionally a very unpopular agenda, but they’ve managed to get momentum behind it in recent months.
The biggest issue there is that they made David Hogg the face of this, and every human being on the planet – even the most rabid cat lady – has a visceral hatred for David Hogg.
Plus, gun control really can’t be the cornerstone of a midterm push. It’s too peripheral.
If the Korea summit falls through, they can attack him on that, I guess – but again, it’s peripheral.
They need to present some kind of comprehensive vision, and they just aren’t capable of doing that, because their actual comprehensive vision – which can be summed up as “globalism” – has proven so overwhelmingly unpopular, due to how destructive it has been to the American economy and social order.
They are not in a position to promote any kind of positive message, so they must focus on negatives.
So I guess considering all of that, maybe talking about health insurance premiums is as good a plan as any…?
But the problem with that is it draws attention to money, which is something Trump is winning on. He is fixing the economy. And I wouldn’t think they would really want anyone to look at that.
Overall, if I was a Democrat advisor, I would say: “you need to find a bunch of handsome, charismatic, well-spoken people and get them on TV talking about whatever the hell in a vague, emotionally resonant way.”
But it’s too late to do that now. It’s too late for 2018 and it’s too late for 2020.
The only thing they can do now is fight the demographic war and hope that immigration and the nonwhite birthrate overwhelms the country.
