Robert Blanchard couldn’t hold back his emotions as he talked about his daughter and the man accused of raping and impregnating her.
“My feelings inside of me are pain,” the Sebastian man said, pausing to gather himself. “A lot of hurt.”
Last Wednesday, police arrested 58-year-old Willie Shorter and charged him with sexually assaulting 43-year-old Dawn Blanchard.
Investigators said Shorter is the father of Blanchard’s baby boy, born in 2015.
Shorter was an employee at a group home in Rockledge, Brevard County run by a company called Bridges.
Blanchard was a resident there.
Her family said Blanchard has the mental capacity of a small child and has been living at the home for more than 10 years.
