We really do need to stop putting chimpanzees in military positions.
And we definitely need to stop letting them become ordnancemen (servicemen in charge of handling and maintaining weapons and ammunition).
Former Cobleskill resident Donald Alton Thorington, a machinist’s mate 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy, was shot and killed May 5 in Porstmouth, Va., according to published reports.
Dalen O’Shay Spence, 21, an aviation ordnance airman, has been charged by the Portsmouth Police Department with murdering Thorington and charged with committing a felony with a firearm.
According to the Navy Times, on Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m. Portsmouth Police Department officers arrived at the 1300 block of Atlanta Avenue following reports that a man had been shot. Police found Thorington suffering gunshot wounds to his torso.
Thorington was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a police press release.
Portsmouth police detectives traced the shooting to Spence, a North Carolina native who is assigned to the aircraft carrier George H. W. Bush., according to the Navy Times.
Spence was initially detained by Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents and eventually turned over to the Portsmouth police. His next court date is set for May 24.
