A Northern California man has been convicted of fatally punching an 85-year-old man because the victim parked too close to his car at a gas station.
A jury on Tuesday found 21-year-old Larry Ray Richey, of Rio Linda, guilty of felony elder abuse and battery causing great bodily injury for the December 12, 2016, attack on Lawrence Windham.
Prosecutors said Windham was pumping gas in the 3900 block of Watt Avenue in Sacramento just before 1pm when the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Richey repeatedly struck him in the face, breaking his jaw in two places.
Windham refused medical treatment, saying he was already on his way to a doctor’s appointment.
That evening, Windham was at his home when he complained of discomfort. He died a short time later.

The 21-year-old faces up to 10 years in state prison when he is sentenced on March 1.
