Did you guys know Denmark sends gunboats to Nigeria to fight the pirates there? Me neither.
Who is he taking refuge from?
The Danish are his enemies. Who takes refuge amongst their enemies? How is that possible?
Right-wing politicians have blasted Denmark’s ‘absurd’ migration rules after a Nigerian pirate who lost a leg in a shoot-out with the country’s navy had his new prosthesis paid for by the taxpayer.
Lucky Frances, 42, applied for asylum last year and has since been granted a residence permit in Denmark.
It comes after he was severely wounded in a shoot-out with the Danish ship, Esbern Snare, in the Gulf of Guinea in 2021.
Four other pirates were killed in the confrontation but Frances was brought back to Denmark for medical treatment with bullet wounds in his leg.
He was later found guilty of endangering of lives but was spared jail and went on to submit an asylum request.
Last month his request for compensation was thrown out by Copenhagen City Council, Danish media has reported.
Nevertheless, right-wing politicians have said the decision to allow Frances to stay in Denmark makes a mockery of the country’s migration policy.

Frances has also been enrolled on a language programme and is receiving help to find him a job as an amputee, BT, a local news outlet, reported.
According to DR, another Danish publication, Frances’s case has cost the Danish taxpayer 4.2 million Danish kroner (£300,000) so far.
The former pirate initially said last year that he wanted to return to Nigeria but later changed his mind and applied for asylum in Denmark.
He said at the time: ‘Going back to Africa will not be good for me. I have thought about my situation.
‘I have also spoken to my family and explained to them about my physical condition. They are okay with me applying for asylum, even if my daughter is not completely satisfied.’
Denmark is now apparently as much of a joke as the US or the UK.
This is absurd.
