If there’s one thing New York City is in dire need of, it’s more traffic.
Thankfully, the NYC government is now enlisting the aid of illegal immigrants to supplement the pitifully small pool of native drivers clogging up the streets.
Hopefully, most of these illegals will end up as taxi drivers, another thing NYC sorely needs.
New York is really late on this. Most liberal states have already done it. Makes me think New Yorkers may hate the color of the skin.
Illegal immigrants in New York will able to obtain driver’s licenses starting next week after a last-minute legal challenge was dismissed — making it the 13th state to allow the practice, but one that critics say is unconstitutional.
The Green Light Law, signed by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier this year, allows anyone to apply for a driver’s license regardless of immigration status and does not require a Social Security number.
Illegal immigrants can use a combination of documents that include a valid passport from a foreign country and a valid foreign driver’s license, as long as it has been expired for less than two years.
“After waiting 18 years to have their right to drive restored, thanks to our legislature, New York can now officially join 12 other states in making driver’s licenses legally available to all residents,” New York Immigration Coalition Executive Director Steve Choi said in a statement this week, arguing that it will make roads safer and the economy stronger.
The idea that someone can walk into a government bureaucracy and say “I’m an illegal immigrant” and not get arrested on the spot is completely insane.
Being an illegal alien ain’t what it used to.
It’s like if drug dealers and pimps walked into a police station to complain they’d been ripped off by customers who refuse to pay them.
Absurd on a fundamental level.
“This is a major step forward for all New Yorkers as we keep building New York to live up to its full potential of equity, opportunity and justice,” said State Sen. Luis Sepúlveda (D-Bronx). “We also look forward to the significant economic and safety benefits the law will bring to communities across our state.”
The controversial measure faced multiple lawsuits. Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns, whose lawsuit was dismissed last month, argued that the measure violated federal law and would make New Yorkers less safe.
“My concern is that, after 9/11, New York state put a prohibition on illegals having driving licenses and now with REAL ID in 2005 after we were attacked there will be a gap from today to Oct. 1 that anyone who is here illegally can get into a federal buiulding [sic] and can fly on our airplanes and cross our border,” he said Saturday on “Fox & Friends.”
These people talk about “justice” and “equality,” but that’s obviously complete hogwash.
How is it “just” that anyone in the world can just barge into our country and make use of our roads, bridges and other infrastructure – which was paid for with the blood and sweat of our ancestors – without paying a dime in taxes, and without even asking for our permission?
And no, giving them driver’s licenses after the fact isn’t giving them permission. That’s like if someone breaks into your house, makes himself a sandwich with your food, and then asks “oh btw, is it alright if I eat this?” after he’s taken a few bites. And then instead of kicking the bastard out, you sigh and say it’s fine.
Giving illegals driver’s license, medical insurance or any other service is the epitome of betacuck submission to a hostile invader.
Can anyone even come up with a good argument for why New York City wouldn’t be better off being nuked at this point?
I can’t help but think of this as a huge improvement.
