Okay so the media is forcing it down the people’s throats that Donald Trump is responsible for children dying from:
- Being death marched by their fathers through the desert without food or water, and
- Entering the country with a disease that resulted in hospital death
Clearly, the argument itself is totally insane. But they just say over and over again “dead children” and expect people to crack under the ostensible emotional weight of that.
The correct position to take would be: “we are not responsible for the decisions of parents who choose to march their children into our country illegally.”
Don’t even argue the details, just flat-out deny any form of responsibility whatsoever.
Kristjen Nielsen has effectively done the opposite of that. While she didn’t technically apologize, she said that changes will be made to prevent further deaths, which implies that there is responsibility on the administration for not having made whatever these changes are earlier (no changes could have changed the fact of the death of the two children who were both in normal American hospitals immediately after they were found).

In the wake of the death of a second migrant child in U.S. custody within the last two weeks, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen announced on Wednesday the government is calling on a several federal agencies to help Customs and Border Protection implement a host of new directives intended to improve how it cares for children and adults held in federal facilities.
“In response to the unprecedented surge of children into our custody, I have directed a series of extraordinary protective measures,” Nielsen said in a statement.
She explained the changes had been enacted as a result of the “heartbreaking” death of Guatemalan 8-year-old Felipe Gomez Alonso, who died after being diagnosed with a cold and a high fever in New Mexico on Monday night.
Jackelin Caal Maquin, a 7-year-old girl also from Guatemala, died of dehydration and septic shock on Dec. 8, two days after she was taken into custody with her father.
“It is now clear that migrants, particularly children, are increasingly facing medical challenges and harboring illness caused by their long and dangerous journey,” Nielsen said.
What is clear is that you’re overdue to resign, Kristjen.
This is absolutely abhorrent, what you are attempting to do here, which is to assist the media in smearing Donald Trump as an evil person who kills children out of meanness.
Instead of offering vague changes to solve nonspecific problems, she could have just said: “the media needs to explain what could could have been done differently to prevent these deaths, then we can talk about how to implement their solution.”
They of course have no solution, because finding someone in the desert and then immediately driving them to the hospital is the absolute best you can do in this situation – until the Wall is built and they are no longer able to smuggle children in.
We need women out of the government.
Nimrata Randhawa was the worst disaster of the entire Trump administration, and Kristjen is reaching for Nimrata levels of abject failure.
I was led to believe that she would be leaving with John Kelly, and I do hope this turns out to be the case.
