A dozen police officers have been injured during clashes with protesters angry at the death of an aboriginal boy in northwest Australia.

Hundreds of protesters pelted the courthouse building in the city of Kalgoorlie, smashing windows and damaging cars. The courthouse was placed in lockdown and its staff were evacuated. They also threw rocks and bottles at police officers present at the site. According to local media, a 55-year-old man was due to appear at the court over murder charges relating to a 14-year-old aboriginal boy. Several people were also arrested, while trying to force their way into the courthouse.
