The war is extremely popular in Israel.
The only people who are against it are the families and friends of hostages.
Apparently, however, having had a bit of time to think it through, people are sort of wondering why the most secure border on earth was left wide open.
RT:
Nearly three-quarters of Israelis want Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign over his government’s failures during the October 7 Hamas attack, according to a poll published by Channel 12 on Friday.
Out of the 72% respondents who said that the prime minister should step down, 44% believed that he should leave office immediately, while 28% suggested that he should resign after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) finish their military operation in Gaza.
…
On October 7, Hamas and allied Palestinian militants carried out a surprise attack on Israeli military bases, cities and farming communities. In many places, the IDF were seemingly caught off and quickly overwhelmed, as civilians were forced to either defend themselves or flee.
The Israeli media described the attack as a “devastating intelligence failure,” with Channel 12 reporting that the army failed to properly maintain a signal system at the border with Gaza. The York Times reported in November that Israeli intelligence and military officials obtained Hamas’ plan for the October 7 incursion more than a year before it occurred, but believed that it was too unrealistic to pull off.
Bibi obviously let it happen on purpose. There is no other explanation. And we know about the insider trading, we know about everything.
I wonder how widespread that belief is in Israel? You wouldn’t be able to talk about it. Israel is this supposedly very free and anal democracy, but if you started talking about how the government let October 7th happen on purpose you’d find out it’s not really so free (it is indeed very anal, however).
This was not like 9/11 where it’s like “no one thought they were going to hijack planes!” (It was later revealed that was a hoax, but it was at least believable.)
The Israeli border is insane. But they just decided to leave it open on the one day that they also knew Hamas was planning an attack?
Surely, not even the Jews can believe that.
Probably, however, most of them would support the war even if Bibi went on TV and said he let it happen on purpose. They would call for him to resign, but they would want this war to go on, and to progress to the level of Hezbollah and Iran. And then, if the Jews won the war, in some decades, Bibi would be honored as a hero for letting it happen and kicking off the war.
But they’re going to lose the war. They are already losing the war, so making the war bigger isn’t going to fix that problem.
If this polling is actually real (and who even knows), this is definitely a reason for Bibi to hurry up with the Lebanon thing.
