Republicans Lose Louisiana Governor’s Race

Republicans suffered another electoral defeat in Louisiana last night, losing the state’s gubernatorial race to a Democrat. This defeat comes after they narrowly lost the recent gubernatorial in Kentucky.

Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards has secured a second term as Louisiana governor after a tightly fought election race.

Mr Edwards faced a strong challenge from Republican Eddie Rispone, winning with 51% of the vote.

It comes as a blow to President Donald Trump who backed his fellow Republican.

Mr Trump visited the state three times during the past two weeks, turning the race into a test of his own popularity in the southern state.

“Tonight, the people of Louisiana have chosen to chart their own path,” Mr Edwards told a crowd of supporters on Saturday.

“And as for the president, God bless his heart,” he added, drawing laughter from some onlookers.

Mr Edwards, 53, was first elected governor in 2015 and remains the only state-wide elected Democrat in the historically Republican state.

Donald Trump did several rallies in both Louisiana and Kentucky, and even that failed to energize enough voters to come out and support the Republican candidates. And these were both states where Republicans should have been able to easily win.

Granted, the Republican candidates in both races were weak, but the overall messaging from the Republican Party and Trump’s 2020 election campaign has been absolutely miserable. They haven’t been focusing on anything to excite their base of voters.

Trump and other Republicans are focusing on issues that nobody cares about. They’ve been rambling on about the impeachment hoax, black unemployment figures, legalizing gay anal sex in foreign countries, supporting Israel and how we have to fight socialism. These are not things that got Trump elected to office in 2016.

Trump was elected in 2016 largely because of his hard line stance on immigration. And that’s because if demographic trends in the United States aren’t reversed, it will be difficult if not impossible to elect another Republican president let alone conserve anything about what America is supposed to be.

This obsession with trying to transform racial minorities into conservatives has been a waste of time and energy. And sure, it’s fine if some racial minorities can be convinced to become Republicans, but most of them won’t become Republicans no matter how low unemployment numbers are for racial minorities. It’s stupid to make this a focus and it’s stupid to moderate the messaging, especially when the electorate is becoming increasingly polarized.

This is why the groyper war has been so important. We have all these fake conservative shills moderating the Republican Party’s message and failing to do anything to energize and mobilize the base of people who voted for Trump in 2016. That’s why we need to forcibly interject our messaging into the Republican Party so we can discredit and remove all these shills that stand in our way. The recent election results we’ve seen in both Kentucky and Louisiana prove once again that a moderate message is a losing message.
