“We believe everyone has a right to speak, and free speech is enshrined in our legal system, but we will silence political leaders because we’ve determined they gave a speech that put a podium in danger” is not a coherent position.
RT:
A decision by US tech giants to permanently block US President Donald Trump’s accounts could have chilling implications for the democratic values America holds dear, Russia’s Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman warned.
A move to ban an acting head of state taken by private American companies “can be compared to a nuclear blast in cyberspace,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on her Facebook page, adding that it is not the immediate impact but some long-term consequences that are the most concerning.
“It has been a blow to the democratic values professed by the West,” she said, adding that the move simultaneously provided both the proponents of strict censorship and those advocating the total cyber-anarchy of the Darknet with a “watertight argument.”
The spokeswoman noted that the ban already led to the restructuring of the media market and one of the biggest “digital migrations.” Earlier, it was reported that a Russian-made messenger service, Telegram, rose to become one of America’s most popular apps as people were increasingly abandoning Facebook and Twitter, particularly in light of Trump’s ban.
Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov, meanwhile warned that the “Apple-Google duopoly” poses a much greater threat of censorship than even the biggest social media companies since it could “completely restrict which apps you use.”
That’s totally true and I’m glad to hear Durov said that, because there are going to be serious calls for Telegram to be banned from the Apple and Google stores.
That is one of the major pinch-points here.
Telegram is going to get hit with an app ban, probably. The thing about Telegram is that they’re using it to try to overthrow governments. They use it in Belarus and Hong Kong and so on. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they just banned it in the US and allowed countries they’re trying to overthrow to download it. There is already more internet freedom in any language that isn’t English, even on the main platforms.
Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they also banned Signal from the app stores, even though it’s not a publishing app. Because remember: this is not just a crackdown on publishing, it is a crackdown on private communication as well. That has been happening for years – for years, you’ve been banned from sharing links to the Daily Stormer on Facebook messenger, in private, on 1-on-1 messages. So they’re going to eventually start shutting down these encrypted apps, saying that they’re used for terrorism (which also now includes MAGA).
Several countries – including Britain – have already said they need access to encrypted messaging apps.
The media has been attacking them since at least 2015.
The other pinch-point, on the non-phone side – one which hasn’t really come up yet for anyone other than the Daily Stormer and 8chan – is the domain registry system. Everything else can kind of be worked out.
Gab and Parler are both probably facing domain seizures, frankly. I’ve been through all of this, actually. First it’s payment processors, then it’s servers, then it’s the CDN, then it’s domain seizure. Again, as of right now, the only legal sites that have been subjected to the last two things are Daily Stormer and 8chan. But obviously, there were a lot of other things that only we’d been subjected to before the last week that everyone else is now subjected to.
By the way – the Anti-Defamation League, an Israeli lobbying group that controls the US State Department, just called for Gab to be investigated.
A national anti-hate group is calling for the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate a conservative social media company and its CEO over allegations that they may have “intentionally aided, conspired with or directed” rioters who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
The Anti-Defamation League released an open letter Wednesday morning calling for authorities to investigate Gab and its CEO, Andrew Torba, saying they “may well bear a measure of criminal responsibility for the attack.”
The move comes amid growing pressure on social media outlets that serve as a petri dish for hate and violence. In recent days, Apple, Google and Amazon have taken action to strip conservative social media outlet Parler of its distribution platforms amid accusations that rioters planned aspects of their attack on its platform. Parler has said it is committed to removing content calling for violence.
It is absurd how the ADL gets away with being called “a national anti-hate group.” It is literally an Israeli lobbying group.
I personally think Gab is either run by feds or is effectively run by feds, and I don’t recommend anyone use it, frankly. I’ve seen a lot of screenshots of the chat rooms there where it is basically just a bunch of federal agents trying to convince teenagers to do very bad things.
Land of the Damned, Home of the Slave
One thing is certain: the fact that the United States is continuing to claim to be a free country is deranged and insane. It’s basically like a tranny claiming to be a woman, except probably worse, because it’s possible for a tranny to actually look like a woman, while the United States looks like how Nazi Germany looked in Schindler’s List.
Moving all these troops into the capital, doing all these raids, locking down all of the speech – they’re flaunting the oppression, in a way that no country has ever done. Maybe China in the 1940s looked like this. But except not really, because this is high tech.
I don’t think there is any possible level of “no freedom” that you can compare this to. It is actually cartoonish. It’s like a parody.
To then have the United States going around the world claiming to represent freedom – that just becomes outside of anything you can even put into words.
God has forsaken those who have forsaken Him, but He hasn’t forsaken you.
No surrender.
Long live the fighters.
