Russia is making it pretty clear that if they lose in the Ukraine, they will start firing nukes.
Putin has said outright that he doesn’t care if it destroys the whole world, he doesn’t think the world should exist without Russia.
I think this is reasonable, but a lot of people say it’s insane or whatever. The thing is: it doesn’t matter if it’s reasonable or insane, it only matters that it is the reality.
Russia has these nukes, they have the ability to use them – this should mean that the Ukraine war is a nonstarter.
Instead, the West – which is constantly saying Putin is an insane madman – is claiming he is far too reasonable to ever start firing off nukes.
Russia announced Friday it had put its nuclear-capable Satan II intercontinental ballistic missiles on combat duty for the first time.
The missile, also known as Sarmat — and classified as a “superweapon” by Russia — was introduced in 2018 and had been scheduled to be deployed for combat duty at the end of 2022.
“The Sarmat strategic complex has been put on combat duty,” Yury Borisov, the head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, said in a media appearance organized by Russia’s Knowledge Society, the state news service TASS reported.
The Sarmat — or Satan II — missile will replace the aging Soviet-era Voyevoda intercontinental ballistic missile, known by the NATO designation SS-18 Satan, which has been in Russia’s arsenal since 1988.
With an estimated range between 6,200 and 11,800 miles, Satan II has the capability to deliver a 10-ton payload containing 10 to 15 nuclear warheads at once to any location around the world.
Again: he’s saying he’ll use this and other ICBMs if he’s cornered.
I just can’t understand the thinking that the dominion of Eastern Ukraine is worth this cost. Rulership of the Donbass is something worth sacrificing all life on earth*?
*I don’t believe in MAD, and don’t believe all life would die, but it would kill a lot of life. Nuclear radiation is exaggerated, but there are enough missiles to hit every major city. I doubt that many would even be fired, by either side. But we’re still talking “serious mass destruction” and kicking the developed world back 100-200 years.
