Russia Releases American Drug Dealer as a Show of Good Faith

Just what we need: another pervert on the loose.

RT:

Russia has released US national Marc Fogel following negotiations with President Donald Trump’s advisors, the White House announced on Tuesday. Fogel, a former schoolteacher and US diplomat, was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2022 on drug trafficking charges.

On Tuesday morning multiple sites reported that a private jet belonging to US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff had entered Russian airspace and landed in Moscow. The US ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracey was later seen by RIA Novosti at the the Russian ministry of foreign affairs.

“Today, President Donald J. Trump and his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are able to announce that Mr. Witkoff is leaving Russian airspace with Marc Fogel, an American who was detained by Russia,” US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said in a statement, adding that Trump, Witkoff and other presidential advisors negotiated his release as part of “an exchange.”

Moscow has not commented on the development so far. Fogel’s Russian lawyer confirmed his release to TASS, adding that the details are still unclear. The former diplomat has boarded a plane and was expected to contact his legal team in Russia after arriving in the US, the lawyer added.

Fogel was a teacher at an Anglo-American school in Moscow and had also previously been on staff at the US embassy in Russia. He lost his diplomatic immunity in May 2021. In August of the same year, he was detained at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow and was found in possession of marijuana and hashish oil.

Everything seems to be going well.

It’s a nice show of good faith.
