Here come the “little green men!”
Private military contractors who do secret missions for Russia flew into Venezuela in the past few days to beef up security for President Nicolas Maduro in the face of U.S.-backed opposition protests, according to two people close to them.
A third source close to the Russian contractors also told Reuters there was a contingent of them in Venezuela, but could not say when they arrived or what their role was.
Russia, which has backed Maduro’s socialist government to the tune of billions of dollars, this week promised to stand by him after opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself president with Washington’s endorsement.
One of Russia’s new more Putin-friendly oligarchs, Igor Sechin, decided to invest in Venezuela for some reason.
And now he’s stuck with billions of roubles sitting over there.
So it could literally be just him sending PMCs over to guard his investments.
It was the latest international crisis to split the global superpowers, with the United States and Europe backing Guaido, and Russia and China urging non-interference.
Yevgeny Shabayev, leader of a local chapter of a paramilitary group of Cossacks with ties to Russian military contractors, said he had heard the number of Russian contractors in Venezuela may be about 400.
Paramilitary Cossacks!
That sounds pretty based.
I don’t think that these paramilitary Cossacks are deployed abroad as mercenary groups though.
That’d be dope, don’t get me wrong. But nah.
But the other sources spoke of small groups.
Russia’s Defence Ministry and Venezuela’s Information Ministry did not respond to requests for comment about the contractors. But Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “We have no such information.”
Yeah, while this sounds cool, I’m not sure it’s happening.
We’ll have to wait and see in the next few days to confirm.
But just imagine the possibilities if it’s true!
I for one think a multipolar world with different blocs of countries funding different paramilitary mercenaries and going at each other would be good fun.
We’ve tried living in a unipolar ZOG world and that sucked.
I would like to have the option of fleeing to South America if shit got intense and knowing I wouldn’t be extradited.
Same with Russia. Or East Asia. Or Southeast Asia. Or Nigeria.
We need options at this point.
So I’d rather see Maduro not get overthrown for that reason. I’d rather he started funding the Daily Stormer since he obviously isn’t spending that money on feeding his people and is hoarding it on himself.
Toss us a banana, President Maduro!
We could use the petropesos.
