So.
It’s finally come.
The great Democratic primary of 2020 has started.
Sen. Kamala Harris kicked off her presidential campaign with a blowout rally in her hometown Sunday, portraying herself as a fighter with the moral force to take on President Trump and unite a divided country.
“We are at an inflection point in the history of our nation,” Harris told a massive cheering crowd at Frank Ogawa Plaza in downtown Oakland. “We are here because the American Dream and our American democracy are under attack and on the line like never before.”
Speaking with a backdrop of City Hall draped in American flags and afternoon sun, a beaming Harris laid out a platform of progressive values while taking a hard line against the Trump administration.
I thought that the DNC was officially anti-Old Glory.
They replaced it with the communist slogan of “ensuring equality,” as they wait for the point where they can openly fly the red star. Or a tranny rainbow or whatever.
This must be Kamala’s doing.
She must have figured out that burning the American flag at rallies was bad optics and shut that shit down.
Harris’ campaign estimated that more than 20,000 people came to the event, and the Oakland Police Department confirmed that count. Surrounding streets were closed to traffic and filled with attendees waiting to get in, with lines snaking up Broadway and around the neighborhood.
Near the front was Evelin Servin, a 25-year-old kindergarten teacher from Monterey, who wore a sweatshirt printed with a photo of Harris during a Senate hearing, her eyebrows raised in a skewering skeptical stare.
“It means so much for my students every day for them to see someone in high office who looks like them,” Servin said. “I have a lot of confidence in her.”
Harris used her speech — which was carried live on major cable networks — to introduce herself to voters less familiar with her record. She was born in Oakland, the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica who met as UC Berkeley graduate students, and got her first job as a prosecutor at the Alameda County District Attorney’s office, arguing cases at the county courthouse a few blocks away from her rally.
A former San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general, Harris stressed her experience prosecuting sex crimes, fighting transnational gangs, and leading legal battles against big banks.
Let me see if I can translate her three points into lay-speak.
- Kamala will unleash an epidemic of THOTery and White men getting hauled off by police for false-rape accusations. Some Jew collateral damage.
- Fighting gangs means realizing that fighting them is pointless and they all need to be released out of prison. Although Jared’s already done a good job with that.
- Anti-bank often translates to taking huge amounts of Goldman Sachs money and giving bankers key Jewish positions in your government, I’ve found.
“In my whole life, I’ve had only one client: The people,” Harris added.
Yeah, but which people?
Behind her populist rhetoric, I get the feeling that she’s talking about a different shade of people than the one I belong to.
That being said, if she tacks closer to the center by not letting her supporters burn flags, harass old people and smash trash cans, she might do very well for herself in an otherwise crowded Democrat field.
In fact, I think she’s got the best shot at winning the primaries at this point.
No obvious scandals swirling around her. Good with the wahmen demographic because of the frumpy Oprah-esque look and personality. Interesting cappuccino color for the minorities… yeah, an overall solid Democratic candidate going forward.
