This could be whatever.
But it could also be something else.
Senate Democrats on Monday promised they would investigate how and why the U.S. military departure from Afghanistan was bungled, even as most people in President Biden’s party said they supported his decision to pull American troops out of the country.
Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., vowed to use his perch as chair of a powerful Senate committee to get to the bottom of why Biden has had to send roughly 7,000 U.S. troops back to Afghanistan to stabilize a situation in which desperate Afghans swarmed the airport in Kabul.
“As the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I hope to work with the other committees of jurisdiction to ask tough but necessary questions about why we weren’t better prepared for a worst-case scenario involving such a swift and total collapse of the Afghan government and security forces. We owe those answers to the American people and to all those who served and sacrificed so much,” Warner said in a statement.
The US intelligence establishment itself said that Kabul would fall to the Taliban. They just said it would take three months instead of 10 hours. So, the poor vets with all their arms and legs blown off were going to be let down pretty hard either way – assuming that this is the way vets think, which is not something I’ve witnessed.
A surrender is a surrender, and it is very hard to claim that a war had a purpose after a surrender. That is especially true when it was a war of aggression against a non-threatening country, which you invaded on the pretext of trumped up gibberish and then decided you were going to bring them into the enlightenment age of hardcore anal pounding.
The problem with the surrender was purely the optics of it. If it would have taken longer for the Taliban to take Kabul – even if it had taken a week – you wouldn’t have this humiliating scene of the scrambling US forces fleeing the mountain men. The humiliation falls on the Empire as a whole, but primarily on the intelligence establishment – and on Joe Biden.
The entire political machine is jumping all over this guy.
We have a long time to debate whether it was the right decision to withdraw; what we must all be focused on right now is how we do it. It’s still within America’s power to save innocent lives, but the Administration has to step up.

Both Pres. Biden and former Pres. Trump bear responsibility for the Taliban’s rapid takeover of Afghanistan, @RepLizCheney tells @jonkarl.

After 6 days of silence, President Biden addressed the worst foreign policy disaster in decades, giving only excuses for his own failures
His poor planning produced the worst possible result in Afghanistan.
The buck stops with him—his failure to lead is an embarrassment.

What’s happening in Afghanistan currently is a humanitarian crisis.
Let’s be clear: there has never been, and will never be, a U.S. military solution in Afghanistan.
Our top priority must be providing humanitarian aid & resettlement to Afghan refugees, women, and children. pic.twitter.com/DImw4Dc7Ns

You know, it’s possible that this could be a setup to remove Joe from office on the grounds that he is utterly senile beyond any possibility of basic functionality, and it is Her Turn.
Unfortunately, there is no one but Biden to blame this on. If he’d had his Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, out there talking about it constantly, or even that black guy from the DoD, he could pass the buck. But he’s been the one out at the front of this the whole time.
Honestly, after this big of a failure, there is no way that Biden can be taken seriously by anyone, so a resignation is almost inevitable, at some point.
The Democrats appear to quite possibly be gearing up for that kind of a move.
In other news, Donald Trump is attacking Biden for not taking in enough refugees.
You know what?
Fuck Donald Trump.
There’s nothing else to say at this point.
I’m beyond sick of this fat motherfucker.
The vaxx thing was way, way more than too much – but calling on Joe Biden to accept more refugees is quite simply all the way beyond the pale.
I was the single biggest supporter of Donald Trump on the whole earth. But I’m just telling you this: I want exactly none of what he is selling.
I do not want a vaxx, I do not want refugees, I do not want Tim Scott. I do not want a 2024 run by the same guy who had the election stolen from him in 2020, while the people who stole it have total control over the electoral system.
What happened with Trump was a tragedy – probably the worst tragedy in American history – and I don’t even really blame him for it. He had no support, he had no people.
But it’s over. He failed, and it’s time for everyone to move on.
He needs to resign from his blog and go play golf until the hordes of lunatics he allowed to seize control come to throw him in prison.
The longer he sticks around, hovering out there somewhere on some blog no one reads, plotting his revenge, the more debased his legacy becomes. Everything good he did starts to lose meaning when he’s out there saying “Joe needs to take more refugees!”
I want to remember the Good Trump – but the man simply will not allow it!

Don’t let the Trump thing get you down.
It’s whatever.
He was a good man who just didn’t have the kind of hard courage necessary to fight the most brutal evil that has ever faced the earth.
I honestly don’t even blame him for anything.
He clearly did all that was in his power to do.
We’re going to need harder men next time around.
