Soon, AI Generated Video will Make It So Video Footage of Something Happening Means Nothing

Using new technology and enough audio clips from the desired individual, people can make a completely artificial and highly realistic video copy of someone speaking. They can also make that fake say things in real time, and with an impressionist behind the curtain it will look and sound real.

It is highly unlikely this will not be used to create false information. They could in theory also disappear someone like, say, Julian Assange then deploy one of these doppelgängers so no one is aware.

We are very close to a point when video footage of something happening will have literally no value whatsoever, because all footage can be faked. Literally, entire events can and will be faked.

This puts us in a place similar to before the invention of cameras, where you can only believe something based on having seen it yourself, or hearing it from someone you trust. The old 4chan adage of “pics or it didn’t happen” will have no meaning.

There are positives and negatives to such a new reality paradigm. The negatives are obvious, but the positives are there too: for one, you will have people questioning the news a lot more after it is clear that nothing that you do not see with your own eyes can be verified as fact.
