Hans Goosen, in his early 50’s, was ambushed by five attackers, each armed with 9mm pistols, when he arrived home from work on Monday afternoon. His wife, in her late forties, and their 25-year-old daughter, were home at the time of the attack and had wondered why the dogs were restless prior to the attack.
After Hans were forced into their home, the family were all tied up after which they were each burned on the top of an ear with a heated piece of iron. The attackers were very aggressive but one, that they recognised, prevented the others from doing the family serious harm.
After the ordeal, which lasted 3 hours were over, the family freed themselves and walked 2.5 kilometers through bushy terrain to seek help from their neighbors.
Firearms, cellular phones, laptops and other electronic goods were loaded into the family’s vehicle in which the attackers fled. The family’s two emergency phones that were hidden in the safe were also stolen in the attack.
