Ukraine-related Western sanctions are expected to strengthen ties between Russia and Thailand, boosting trade turnover between the nations to as much as $10 billion, according to Russian Economy Minister Maxim Reshetnikov.
“The level of $10 billion that we had previously set is still a goal, and an achievable one,” he told journalists after the first day of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which kicked off on Saturday in the Thai capital of Bangkok.
Reshetnikov said that trade between Russia and the South Asian state reached $2.8 billion in 2021, stressing that the two partners expect that figure to multiply.
According to the minister, the countries had discussed the issue of boosting mutual trade earlier in the day.

Thailand is the number one country that has been super good at playing every side. They’ve made trillions off of tourism, appealing to both the East and West as a neutral destination for beaches and bitches.
However, the game has changed. There is no more room to play sides. War is coming to Planet Earth, and it is time to fall in line with the East or West.
Thailand collapsed their tourism industry as a result of a complete neurotic freakout over coronavirus, so it’s kind of irrelevant now. I think the country is still closed, unless you want to do a two-week quarantine for $1,200 – locked in a hotel with shitty food and daily invasive nose swabs.
Southeast Asia is geographically important, and most of it is on sides with the East. Philippines is the notable exception of a country that is so infested with American spook influence that it can’t break free. Former President Duterte tried to bust out and couldn’t. Ferdinand Marcos’ son Bongbong is now in charge – and it is pretty based they elected the son of a “dictator” who was overthrown by a US-backed color coup. But it’s unlikely Bongbong will be able to break out of the American web. (Duterte’s daughter, who has always been his proxy, is the vice president now – so you have a bunch of people who would rather get on sides with China, but it just doesn’t seem plausible.)
Meanwhile, Vietnam is basically anti-China and did a pogrom against Chinese people in 2014 – killing a bunch of them and burning their factories. But they also haven’t really committed to the ZOG alliance.
Otherwise: Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia are on sides with China/Russia.
It’s just logical that Thailand and Vietnam would commit to the East, because they are in the East, and when the BIG ONE finally starts, they will just get Zerg-rushed from all sides if they’re hosting American forces.
Thailand is completely surrounded. Vietnam has a big sea border where the Americans could I guess help them but I mean – they have a border with China, then Laos and Cambodia. It’s a long border which is not really defensible. People have been crossing back and forth since forever. There is no natural barrier on most of it.
When the war starts, China will move very rapidly to close holes. That is why most of SEA – they are not stupid people – have already lined up. China taking any SEA country (other than the Philippines) would take like ten minutes, and all it would mean is that the government would be decapitated and replaced. Opinion is so split, and so much of the population is ambivalent about geopolitics in general – plus, the entire political class in any of these countries is pragmatic and opportunistic – that China will not have a problem installing a friendly government in any country that doesn’t get on sides before things get hot.
What’s more: in recent years, the US has been funding a color uprising in Thailand, getting homosexuals and women to attack the king.
English signs about democracy, attacks on police – the whole dance we’re all very familiar with at this point.
This is not a good way to make friends.
Thailand opening trade up with Russia might not seem like a huge deal, but it’s a big signal of the way they’re going. They don’t want to directly make friends with the Chinese, and that’s fine – Russia is playing emissary and getting the job done.
China is dumping huge amounts of money into Thailand, so if they don’t want to make a big show of allying with China, there is no harm done.
Just one small problem.
That’s going to have to go.
