The Marine Corps has said the shooter was a decorated war veteran.
The Marine Corps veteran who is accused of killing 12 at a California bar Wednesday had deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 as a machine gunner, the Marine Corps said Thursday.
Ian David Long, 28, opened fire at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, on Wednesday using a Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean told reporters in a briefing. Long is also believed to have killed himself.

While the extent of Long’s police record was not yet clear, Dean said deputies had previously dispatched to Long’s address in response to neighbors’ concerns.
The Ventura County sheriff said Long “might have been suffering from PTSD” despite no evidence being offered to the public to suggest that, The LA Times reported.
Long served for about four and a half years in the Marine Corps, and deployed to Afghanistan as part of the surge strategy from November 2010 to June 2011. His last duty station was with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, Third Marine Division, at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He left the service in 2013 with the rank of corporal.
Long is a decorated veteran, having deployed to Afghanistan during the Corps’ push to clear large swaths of the volatile Helmand province, Afghanistan.
The years 2010 to 2011 would mark one of the bloodiest periods for the Corps during its participation in the Afghan conflict.
Among Long’s awards are two Navy Unit Commendations, or NUC, which is only awarded to units for “outstanding heroism in action against the enemy,” according to the Navy’s award criteria instructions.

It’s too early to be sure, but he may have committed suicide after the attack.

California State University Northridge released a statement saying he was a student there in 2016.

The shooter in last night’s bar shooting was once a student at California State University Northridge. In a statement from University President Dianne Harrison, she said that Ian David Long last attended the school in 2016.

They have identified the suspect: 29 year old David Ian Long.
He drove his mother’s car to the attack and said nothing upon entering the bar, the source said.
The gun was purchased in Ventura County, the source said.
Authorities said the man was heavily tattooed but apparently didn’t have identification on him.
I suspect he is probably a white shitlib. Newbury Park is mostly white. Initial reports said he was white or hispanic, but he had a beard, which is not typically hispanic.
There is simply no way that a targeting of a country music venue is anything other than an attack on conservative whites.

Authorities in Thousand Oaks, Calif., northwest of Los Angeles, reported 13 fatalities at a bar and dance hall late Wednesday after multiple shots were fired by a man inside.
Ron Helus, a sheriff’s sergeant, was among those killed. The gunman was also killed, authorities said.
Thousand Oaks is an extremely white (for America, 80%), explicitly Republican municipality. A gunman went into a bar and murdered 12 people, including a sheriff’s deputy who responded to the scene.
This reeks of the same kind of motivation that the FBI buried in Paddock’s massacre in Vegas. Right after the election in which we held the Senate strong, it seems difficult to escape the subtext. This is Democratic terrorists murdering our people. How much American blood will be shed until good Republicans finally realize this is a kinetic war and their only hope for salvation is an embrace of the relentless brutality of their forefathers, cleansing the nation of spics, Jews, and their enablers?

A man being interviewed by local ABC station said he had multiple friends at Borderline who were survivors of the Route 91 shooting in Las Vegas just over a year ago.
