According to our newspaper partners, the Panola Watchman, Mose Dandrew Smith’s case is headed to trial September 9. District Judge LeAnn Rafferty set down the tentative date during a Monday status hearing.
Smith is charged with capital murder of multiple persons and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Carson, 18, of Waskom and Berry, 21, of Panola were killed and a third person was shot at a mobile home on a private road near DeBerry. Police have arrested four Bossier City men in the case: Smith, Marlon Kelly, Cartrell Oshae Dewayne Williamson and Cordarius D’Shun Thompson.

Rafferty also set a May 1 deadline for the Panola County District Attorney’s Office to decide whether it will seek the death penalty in the case. District Attorney Danny Buck Davidson told Moore and Rafferty Monday his office would have a psychologist, Dr. Thomas Allen, evaluate Smith “to determine whether or not your client will be a danger to the future as a part of the deciding whether or not we’re going to seek the death penalty.”
