Out of a desire to keep tabs on the enemy, I recently joined the email list for the Zionist group Christians United For Israel. Today they sent me a link to a post about the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple:
Today, Jewish people around the world are mourning the destruction of the first and second temples that were destroyed on the same day, on the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av, about 656 years apart. The 9th of Av was also the day that the Jews were expelled from England in 1290, the day that King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled the Jews from Spain in 1492 and the beginning of the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942.
Praise God that this 9th of Av of different. This 9th of Av millions of Christians around the world have pledged to our Jewish brothers and sisters- Never Again. Never Again will we be silent. Never Again will they be alone. Thank you for being part of our Christians United for Israel Family who stands up and speaks up for Israel.
The idea that we should mourn the destruction of the Temple is completely at odds with the Christian tradition, as can be seen from the following quotes. The first quote comes from Justin Martyr, a Christian writer from the 2nd century AD. When speaking to a Jew about the destruction of the Temple, Justin Martyr says:
these things have happened to you in fairness and justice, for you have slain the Just One, and His prophets before Him; and now you reject those who hope in Him, and in Him who sent Him—God the Almighty and Maker of all things —cursing in your synagogues those that believe on Christ.
The next quote comes from 19th century Protestant theologian Philip Schaff, showing that up until the modern era Christians held the destruction of the Temple to be an act of divine wrath:
The Jews had displayed their obstinate unbelief and bitter hatred of the gospel in the crucifixion of Christ, the stoning of Stephen, the execution of James the Elder, the repeated incarceration as of Peter and John, the wild rage against Paul, and the murder of James the Just. No wonder that the fearful judgment of God at last visited this ingratitude upon them in the destruction of the holy city and the temple…But this tragical fate could break only the national power of the Jews, not their hatred of Christianity.
Only through their complete control of our culture have the Jews been able to dupe millions of Christians into believing the heresy of Christian Zionism, a belief so obviously inconsistent with Scripture and the historical Church.
