Trump Executive Order to Ban Paper Straws, Return to Straw Normalcy

US President Donald Trump has promised to sign an executive order against paper straws next week. The move would reverse former President Joe Biden’s plan to phase out single-use plastic products in government buildings by 2027.

Trump made the announcement on Friday on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work. BACK TO PLASTIC!”

In 2019, Trump’s campaign sold red, reusable plastic straws branded with his name. The product’s description stated: “Liberal paper straws don’t work. STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP and buy your pack of recyclable straws today.” The straws were sold in packs of 10 for $15, and the initiative reportedly raised nearly $500,000.

I’m the number one anti-plastic guy, but I am also, frankly, an anti-straw guy. I don’t use straws and I think it’s gay.

But you know, occasionally, I get some kind of juice drink at the hippie cafe, and you really have to drink those with a straw, and these paper straws are intolerable.

What’s more, these paper straws are filled with much worse toxins than the plastic ones, and those toxins are much more likely to enter your body, because of the way paper straws dissolve in your mouth.

This isn’t some secret. Paper straws contain huge amounts of PFAS that go into your drink and into your body.

The hippie places I go to use stainless steel straws now, because anyone who isn’t some braindead global warming zombie is aware of the threat of so-called “paper straws.” And again, I don’t use them often.

But this whole “let’s get rid of plastic straws to solve the plastic problem” was always the gayest and most retarded idea. People are now drinking from plastic bottles with paper straws. How much more plastic is in the bottle than in the straw? 50 times?

Why not ban the plastic bottles? Up through the 1980s, water and other beverages came in glass bottles, the way beer and expensive water still does. Why not start with getting rid of the plastic bottle? Why not get rid of the plastic lining in coffee cups (which used to be wax), which now prevents any health conscious person from ordering takeout coffee (unless they buy one of those $40 Starbucks reusable stainless steel mugs, and then remember to carry it around)? The reason is that they don’t actually care, and paper straws are just some weird humiliation ritual.

You could also make straws out of natural plastic (“bioplastic“), if you wanted. There’s no reason not to do that. Unless you really just don’t give a shit and are just trying to degrade society with goofy nonsense.

Get them out.
