Fairfield police have charged one man and arrested another in connection with the case of a Pinson woman found dumped and torched on April 19.
Kenneth Childers, 27, is charged with Abuse of a Corpse, said Fairfield Police Chief Leon Davis. Childers is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
Megan Elizabeth Monroe, 22, was found dead around 11:30 a.m. that Saturday behind the empty house in the 500 block of 40th Street. Firefighters found her body when they responded to a fire call behind the house.
Davis has said that police believed she died elsewhere and was dumped behind the house where she was found. Authorities haven’t yet ruled on the cause of death.
Fairfield police midday Tuesday carried out a search warrant at a home in Birmingham’s West End. A second man was taken into custody. He hasn’t yet been charged with any crime, but Davis said he expects charges will be filed.
As for Childers, Davis said “Additional charges may be forthcoming pending an official cause of death from the coroner’s office.”
Davis said the investigation is ongoing.
