Two Men (At Least One White) Killed After Trying to Buy Assault Rifle from Black and His Girlfriend

Blacks really do make terrible businessmen.

An Oakland man has been charged with two counts of murder with special circumstances in the fatal shooting of two men last month over the sale of an assault rifle, according to police and court documents.

The suspect was identified as Ronyae Haywood, 26, who is also charged with shooting at an occupied vehicle, furnishing an assault weapon and unlawful firearm activity. The special circumstances attached to the murder charges are for an alleged multiple killing.

He has denied involvement in the case, according to court documents.

His girlfriend, identified by police as Angel Shavers, 20, also of Oakland, was charged as an accessory after the fact in the case as well as furnishing an assault rifle.

According to court documents, Shavers has admitted her involvement in the killings, saying she set up the transaction and was present when the shootings happened.

Authorities said Haywood is suspected of fatally shooting Duane Palmer Jr., 28, of Oakland and Tyler Dalton Kline, 27, of Dublin at about 11 p.m. March 13 in the 2100 block of East 14th Street. They were both shot while inside a vehicle.

Police said detectives learned in the course of the investigation that Shavers arranged a sale of an assault rifle between Haywood and Palmer, who did not know each other. Police said Shavers knew Palmer. They agreed to meet in a grocery store parking lot.

During the transaction, Haywood and Palmer got into a verbal altercation and Palmer tried to flee the scene in his vehicle. Police said they have not confirmed what the argument was about, or what the selling price was for the rifle. As Palmer was driving away, Hayward fired multiple rounds at the vehicle with a .45 caliber pistol, striking both Palmer and Kline, who was in a rear passenger seat, police said. Two other men in the vehicle were not hit by the gunfire and fled the scene on foot, according to court documents. They were later located and interviewed by police.

Haywood and Shavers fled in a car. Haywood was dropped off at a relative’s home a few blocks away; the relative later drove him to Oakland to meet Shavers, who had driven there by herself, according to the documents.

Investigators were able to identify Haywood and Shavers as suspects primarily through cell phone records, authorities said.

Both suspects are being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail and are scheduled for arraignment on Friday.
