THE figures really do speak for themselves, loudly, clearly and conclusively.
One in six in a low-skilled job is an immigrant. In the last decade a million foreign workers have entered the UK.
These figures come from the Home Office’s very own Migration Advisory Committee, which also acknowledge Labour’s policies are largely responsible for this state of affairs and that future EU expansion (from five countries with a combined population of 84 million) would be a cause for massive concern.
The low-skilled jobs market (we’re talking about 13 million jobs) is now swamped by immigrant workers and the pressure on communities and public services is ever more intense.
One day Labour’s betrayal of the British working class will be regarded with amazement by historians. For a party – set up by and for the working class – to turn on its own as it has done defies belief.
As recently as 2004 when the warning signs were there Labour could have imposed controls on the access allowed to new EU citizens. But it chose not to and now generations of British people must live with the consequences. Even the former Labour home secretary Jack Straw admits that was a “spectacular mistake”.
Yesterday the Home Office spoke of “working across government to ensure immigration works for this country”. Let’s hope they do and that this report shocks the Coalition as much as it will shock the public.
