An 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted as she walked to catch a school bus.
The youngster was walking along a street in Coventry when she was approached by a man in his 30s. He tried to show her obscene images on his phone before making sexual advances and grabbing her.
The girl ran to a nearby shop before telling her family who alerted police.
The attack happened in Eld Road, Foleshill , on Tuesday morning. Since then officers from West Midlands Police have interviewed the youngster and started searching for the man.
The girl’s mother said the youngster was “scared out of her brain” after the incident – but relieved her daughter escaped without being hurt. She says she keen to publicise the incident to warn other parents in Foleshill.
“It’s a ten minute walk from the house to the bus stop,” the mother said.
“She normally has her phone with her but she forgot it. The police have been brought in and will be doing everything from going door-to-door to checking cameras in the area.
“She’s tried to give a description the best she could even though she was scared out of her brain. The only other information I can give that he had a black tracksuit type jacket and black trousers.
“I only wanted to warn people and try and get more information. I’m thankful it didn’t end up being worse than it is.”
The attacker, described as black and believed to be in his 30s, walked off after the assault towards a nearby shop at 7.30am.
Anyone who witnessed the attack, or has any information about it, should contact Coventry Police on 101 or the Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
