Two commuters were ‘attacked with a hammer’ as they headed to work this morning, according to witnesses.
Onlookers said a man ‘whacked’ one of the victims with the tool ‘over a cigarette’ at Stratford tube station around 6am on Tuesday.
Officers rushed to the scene and arrested a 26-year-old man from East Ham on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon, according to British Transport Police (BTP).
The first victim was hit in the head and is believed to have suffered a fractured shoulder.
A spokesperson for BTP told Metro.co.uk: ‘Shortly before 6am this morning, officers were called to Stratford station in east London after reports of two men assaulted by a man in the station concourse.
‘Both have been taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.
‘The first victim received a laceration to his head as well as a suspected fractured shoulder.
‘The second victim is being treated for minor bruising.’
