Mohammed Shobir Ahmed Chowdhury.
It’s always unfortunate when a man is sent to jail for expressing his unique cultural heritage.
A man who sexually assaulted two young girls has been jailed.
As a teen, Mohammed Shobir Ahmed Chowdhury, now 30, would often visit an address also attended by his two young victims.
He would watch films alone with one victim, sitting the girl on his knee and sexually assaulting her.
The other victim described being led to a room where Chowdhury would abuse her.
Chowdhury, of Newminster Road, Newcastle, denied the charges against him but was found guilty of six counts of sexual assault at Newcastle Crown Court on October 3 last year.
…
He was jailed for three years and made to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
His first victim says the abuse she suffered at the hands of Chowdhury left her utterly unable to trust men.
In her victim impact statement, which was read aloud in court, she stated: “I hardly leave the house and just feel anxious all the time. I find I’m wary around blokes, for example if a taxi driver arrives with a man driving I feel uncomfortable and anxious.
“I struggled to form a relationship with my boyfriend; I had trust issues. I just don’t want this to ruin my life anymore.”
