This is thinking with your noggin.
The Home Office plans to pay a rapper, two comedians, TV stars and influencers to post messages on TikTok deterring small boat crossings, it is claimed.
Officials have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of celebrities in Albania who they think will get the message across to young men. The Government also plans to expand the social media scheme to Iraq, Egypt and Vietnam, with Turkey and India also being looked at.
The Brutal Syrian Civil War is nowhere more brutal than in Albania
Ministers are desperately grappling with ways of preventing people reaching the UK by crossing the Channel, with the asylum backlog at nearly 100,000 at the end of 2023. The Home Office said it has been running a social media deterrence campaign in Albania, France and Belgium for the past three years, and believes the message is getting through.
Documents seen by The Times show a shortlist of influencers in Albania includes a rapper – Omg Dioh – and two comedians, along with lifestyle bloggers, TV personalities and a travel writer. Officials are understood to be in discussions with other governments about using social media in their countries to deter people coming to the UK.

Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman is claimed to have blocked the idea saying it is “frivolous”, but it has been backed by her successor, James Cleverly. The Government says smugglers are using social networks like TikTok to encourage people to make the perilous journey. TikTok posts will include warnings that people could be detained and deported.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “People smugglers frequently use social media to peddle lies and promote their criminal activities, and it is vital that we utilise the same platforms to inform migrants about the truths about crossing the Channel and coming to the UK illegally. The relentless action we have taken reduced crossings by 36% last year, which saw similar weather conditions to 2022. We make no apologies for using every means necessary to stop the boats and save lives.”
Apparently, they need fewer Albanians because they need the room for more Africans.
The UK is definitely not slowing immigration, generally.
Who even knows why they’re targeting Albanians.
Albanians literally post videos of themselves breaking the law on social media, and they still can’t get deported
