It was an “unprovoked attack,” so the chance of the victim being white is close to 100%.
Police are stepping patrols after a man had to be taken to hospital following an unprovoked attack in broad daylight in Oldham.
The 45 year-old was set upon in a wooded area behind Cairo Mill on Greenacres Road in Waterhead just after 1pm on Thursday afternoon.
He suffered a nasty facial injury and for which he was rushed to hospital, however he has now been discharged Greater Manchester Police say.
Detectives have described it as an unprovoked attack on an innocent man, but said they believe it was an “isolated incident.”
They have however increased patrols in the area.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and as yet no arrests have been made.
However police have released a description of the attacker and asked anyone who may have any information to come forward.
They say the culprit was Asian, in his late teens, approximately 6ft 2ins tall and of a slim build with a goatee beard.
He was wearing a black tracksuit.
