FORMER city social worker Mudassar Khan has been struck off after he was convicted of distributing and possessing indecent photographs of children.
Khan, 26, is understood to have worked at Portsmouth City Council for 11 months in 2011.
Last December he was jailed for two years at Winchester Crown Court after he was convicted of 16 counts of distributing indecent photographs of children and possession of indecent photographs of children.
The charges related to thousands of images.
A conduct and competence committee at the Health and Care Professions Council met and decided he should be struck off the register.
Panel chair Christine Mills said: ‘While the registrant is not at liberty to further remedy his behaviour the matters involved are so serious that they are arguably beyond repair and will have had lasting damage on his reputation and his profession.
‘The nature, gravity and number of images involved, the fact that they had been distributed, and the age of those involved were such that the panel came to the decision that the only proportionate and appropriate measure in this instance is to remove the registrant from the register.’
The panel said Khan worked at both Portsmouth and Southampton social services, between 2009 and 2011, including for children’s services and in the children in need section. He was not present or represented at the meeting.
