A 40-year-old man has been put on trial for rape of a woman he found intoxicated, covered in blood, with cracked teeth and suffering a broken jaw after a night out in Bradford, England.
According to the Telegraph and Argus, Shaid Hanif told Bradford Crown Court that he had stumbled upon the woman who was staggering about injured and alone in the early hours of the morning after a night out, so he phoned for a taxi and took her home with him.
He claimed he intended for her to sleep on his settee but she “insisted” on going to bed with him and having sex.
One would wonder why he didn’t phone for an ambulance or take her to A&E given her broken jaw, cracked teeth, fractured finger and covered in grazing, bruising and blood.
The prosecutor, Matthew Bean, described the injuries to jurors of the 22-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons. The woman unexpectedly met Hanif, after a night out with friends at a nightclub in multicultural Yorkshire city.
The woman awakened in Shaid’s single bed completely unaware of how she acquired her injuries. She required stitches to her lip and can not remember anything past 2:30 a.m. as she was very drunk and having done three lines of cocaine.
Hanif was convicted on Thursday of raping the woman in February of 2016 and is remanded back to prison until his sentencing in Leeds Crown Court next month.
