Even when the car isn’t stolen, these people are not expert drivers.
A teen accused of speeding while behind the wheel of a stolen car and causing a fatal Boca Raton crash will face adult charges, prosecutors said Friday.
Wesley Brown, 15, crashed a stolen Ford Mustang into an SUV driven by Wendy Harris-Aceves on Nov. 1 in Boca Raton, police said.
Harris-Aceves, 46, died at the crash, which happened just after 11 p.m.
Brown is now facing charges as an adult of vehicular homicide, fleeing a marked police car and having no valid driver’s license.
According to Boca Raton police, the Mustang driven by Brown was stolen just a few hours before the crash when a valet worker at the Addison Event Center, at 2 East Camino Real, was robbed at gunpoint.
A Boca Raton officer spotted the stolen vehicle and tried to pull over the driver, but Brown sped away, police said.
Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander said Brown has been in and out of jail for various offenses this year. On Nov. 11, he pleaded guilty to a string of charges including burglary, robbery and grand theft auto in Broward County on an unrelated case.
Records show Brown had stolen other cars three times this year before the Nov. 1 crash.
He was placed on probation in October 2014 for numerous convictions, including marijuana possession, battery and trespassing. He was arrested nine times between Oct. 31, 2012 and Aug. 14, records show.
That’s a lot of arrests. Almost like he should have already been deported.
