I’ve seen this Cox guy give his pronouns on a livestream.
So forgive me if I’m skeptical.
This doesn’t even ban hormones, just some of the surgeries.
A real right-wing law would have anyone claiming to be a tranny thrown into a mental institution run by priests until they could be disabused of these delusions.
Republican Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox signed into law a ban on some gender-affirming care for transgender minors in the state, restricting both puberty blockers and hormones and prohibiting sex reassignment surgeries.
“More and more experts, states and countries around the world are pausing these permanent and life-altering treatments for new patients until more and better research can help determine the long-term consequences,” said the governor in a statement on Saturday.
Senate Bill 16, known as “Transgender Medical Treatment and Procedures,” was introduced by a family physician and Utah state Sen. Michael Kennedy (R). The legislation stated that it “prohibits a health care provider from providing a hormonal transgender treatment to new patients who were not diagnosed with gender dysphoria before a certain date” and “prohibits performing sex characteristic surgical procedures on a minor.”
It’s the title that tells you everything you need to know about the author/publication. It should read ‘Utah bans child mutilation.’ They did not ban anything else (including care).

“While we understand our words will be of little comfort to those who disagree with us, we sincerely hope that we can treat our transgender families with more love and respect as we work to better understand the science and consequences behind these procedures,” Cox said of the bill he signed into law.
Cox said his administration recognized that it was a “terribly divisive” issue and sought to push the state legislature to provide additional resources to organizations that work to help “this important Utah community.”
Yeah, he didn’t want it but was scared to veto it like the boy-lover Arkansas governor vetoed their anti-tranny bill.
The new law will take effect on July 1, requiring medical professionals to seek alternative treatments for minors suffering from gender dysphoria. As of January 1 of 2024, the law would find providing hormonal treatment to minors without a proper certification to be “unprofessional conduct.”
In a letter released Friday, the ACLU of Utah executive director Brittney Nystrom slammed the constitutionality of the bill.
“The bill is riddled with numerous constitutional issues. It violates the equal protection rights of transgender adolescents and the due process rights of their parents. This bill clearly discriminates on the basis of sex and transgender status,” wrote Nystrom. “The bill also infringes upon the substantive due process rights of parents to direct the care, custody, and control of their minor children, which includes the right to follow medical guidelines for treatment.”
Cox could be setting it up to fail.
I’ve not seen any single one of these governors take a hard stand. That includes Ron DeSantis, who managed to do less than Brian Kemp in Florida (all of that media hype was just designed as the reverse – positive coverage, making it look to conservatives as if he was pushing back when really he did the same thing or worse than 14 other states).
