Venezuela is starting to look crazier than some of the wasteland scenes from Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. Even this guy agrees and he looks pretty crazy. Cool haircut though.
I wrote last June that the civil unrest in Venezuela looked like a Latino version of a Mad Max film. Now, it looks worse than any Mad Max film.

The nation’s President Nicolas Maduro held a vote this past weekend that essentially granted him dictatorial powers. The opposition called the vote a fraud with the nation’s Attorney General refusing to recognize its legitimacy. This has inflamed the situation to the point where the country is looking like a full fledged war zone.
Trump’s team announced sanctions against Maduro as a result of the questionable vote.
The Trump administration slapped financial sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Monday after a weekend election that gave the South American country’s ruling party virtually unlimited powers.
The sanctions freeze any assets Maduro may have in U.S. jurisdictions and bar Americans from doing business with him. They were outlined in a brief notice by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control ahead of a White House announcement from President Trump’s national security adviser H.R. McMaster and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
McMaster described the election, which creates a constituent assembly that will rewrite Venezuela’s constitution, as an “outrageous seizure of absolute power” that “represents a very serious blow to democracy in our hemisphere.”

Who the hell cares?
Democracy is a horrible system of government. If democracy is such a great thing, why do we see chaos in the streets of Venezuela? This is a country that has historically held democratic elections. Apparently that hasn’t worked out so well for them.
And why is it that democratically elected governments never seem to do what the people want? Applying sanctions in the name of saving democracy is a completely retarded concept.
Besides, it’s doubtful that the opposition will offer anything better than Maduro. Most of the economic problems Venezuela is having is due to the fact that they are a one-dimensional economy centered around oil. When oil prices collapsed, the government was unable to pay for their social programs which led to inflation and the unfolding calamity. There’s more than just political issues at play.
Applying sanctions on Maduro is just a way for Trump’s team to say that they aren’t ignoring the situation. Sanctioning Maduro isn’t going to change a damn thing.
As far as I’m concerned, let the Venezuelan people have a civil war. That seems to be where all this is headed any way. If they want Mad Max, let them have Mad Max. There’s no reason for the United States to get involved with this. We have enough problems as is.

For what it’s worth, the US sanctions basically just made Maduro say, “oh okay well then, I guess we can just do whatever we want now then, lol.”
Two Venezuelan opposition leaders have been taken from their homes, family members have said.
Leopoldo Lopez and Antonio Ledezma were serving house arrest when they were taken, family members said on Twitter.
The wife of Mr Lopez and the daughter of Mr Ledezma said they were holding President Nicolas Maduro responsible for the fate of the two men.
Venezuela’s Supreme Court said it had revoked house arrest measures granted the opposition leaders and put them back in jail because they were planning to flee.
