Footage from the Shasta County Board of Supervisors in Redding, California showing a local business owner and veteran identified as Carlos Zapata denouncing the city’s maddening coronavirus policies went viral this week, as many voiced support for the man’s sentiments.
In his short speech, Zapata vaguely threatens some kind of violent uprising over masks and lockdown measures, and says he’s a military veteran and ready to go.
Here’s what he said:
I’m telling you guys I’m pretty appalled about what’s going on. At first we sat like concerned citizens, and we all wanted to figure out how to best navigate through this little COVID thing, you know. And uh, as we realized that it’s not quite as dangerous as we thought it would be, you know, I was absolutely appalled by the cowardice.
As you’re sitting there with your masks on, I don’t blame you for wearing masks, because I’d be hiding my face too if I were you for what you’re doing. It’s absolutely horrendous what you’re doing to these people. I’m a business owner, and I’m telling you, our families are starving. You guys can sit here with your jobs, you can sit here, you’re going to get paid, you can fall asleep in your chair like that gentleman’s doing behind his mask right there, okay? And I’m telling you right now that right now we’re being peaceful, and you’d better be happy that we’re good citizens, that we’re peaceful citizens.
But it’s not going to be peaceful much longer. This isn’t a threat, I’m not a criminal, I’ve never been a criminal, but I’m telling you that good citizens are going to turn into real concerned and revolutionary citizens real soon.
And nobody else is going to say that, I’m probably the only person that has the balls to say what I’m saying right now.
And we’re building, we’re organizing, and we’ll work with law enforcement or without law enforcement. But you won’t stop us when the time comes because our families are starving. And if you don’t hear the seriousness in my voice, I hope you open your ears and you absolutely listen to what I’m saying, because this is a warning for what’s coming. It’s not going to be peaceful much longer. It’s not going to be ra-ra, it’s not going to be speeches, it’s not going to be standing outside saying the Pledge of Allegiance, it’s not going to be waving flags, it’s going to be real.
When you’ve seen the things that I’ve seen, I went to war for this country. I’ve seen the ugliest, dirtiest part of humanity. I’ve been in combat, and I never wanted to go back again, but I’m telling you what, I will to save this country. If it has to be against our own citizens, it will happen, and there’s a million people like me, and you won’t stop us.
Open the county, let our citizens do what they need to do, let owners of businesses do what they need to do to feed their families.
Take the masks off, quit masking and muzzling your children. The psychological damage you’re doing to them is horrible. I’ve had six friends kill themselves since it’s happened, veterans who lost their jobs. How do you feel about being complicit in perpetuating that? The greatest hoax ever perpetuated against the American people? And you’re part of it by wearing masks. In Shasta County.
We’re supposed to be red country up here. Not blue country, we’re red country up here. You guys know that. You claim to be conservatives, maybe you’re not, maybe you’re liberals, I don’t know. But by God, we’re Americans, and remember that. Take your mask off, stop muzzling yourself. Join us, fight with us, against what’s happening in Sacramento. It’s a travesty. Thanks.
It’s an inspiring sentiment, but it sure as hell doesn’t mean much.
This idea of a violent uprising has not been thought through by anyone, and it only makes sense to people below a certain IQ level.
The basic thing that people need to think about is what exactly it even means. So, people with guns would get together and then I guess go and occupy government buildings. Then they would what? Make demands of the state and federal government? At best they would be ignored, starved out and then arrested when they gave up, at worst Seal Team Six would be sent in, but in no scenario does something good come of it.
I’m sure the response to that from a person who believes in the fantasy of violent insurgency would be that if people in different cities made the move all at once, the federal government would be forced to negotiate and give immunity and so on. How then would you coordinate it? Using Facebook? What about when your account gets banned? What about when the electricity (along with the other utilities) is shut off in whatever buildings you are occupying, and the cell signal is blocked?
If you’re thinking of spontaneous uprisings, with people joining you across the country after you seize the government buildings, you’re going to need to rethink that. If people did this in one city, and the government was worried about more people doing it, they could simply tell the media not to report on it. If it was leaked on social media, the media could come out saying you’re actually a pedophile who kidnapped kids – or whatever. They can say whatever they want.
This is before you get into anything about what your goals and demands would be, which is equally difficult to think through. If there was some political party in Washington you could demand be installed as the country’s leadership, okay. But there is no “Moslem Brotherhood” analog in America. There is no organized political resistance at all, which would be the first and most basic prerequisite for any attempted violent revolution.
Frankly, violent uprisings are simply not possible in the modern era unless you have the backing of some foreign state which is ensuring your communications channels, even if you have widespread support. There is no widespread support in most of America, and there wouldn’t be until things got quite a bit worse. The thing is, when things get worse, part of the worsening is going to be a further lockdown on electronic communication, which makes the already ridiculous proposition even more ridiculous.
In the medieval era, the king had horses, letters and shouts for communication, and the peasants had the same (assuming they had a priest to write for them, which they probably did have). There was still not really any such event as a successful peasant uprising (any such perceived event was actually led by competing noblemen who took a populist stance), but it was at least logistically feasible. In our current situation, the state would have access to all computer technologies and you would have access to none of them, in any wargames scenario you can plot.
Professional soldiers do not a revolution make. They are an obvious prerequisite for any kind of uprising, but the idea of “there are vets that are trained in war so that means we can overthrow the government” is absurd.
The only possible solution to any of this is political solutions. There is no other type of solution that could be possible. The good news is, the further we get down the line here, the more plausible political solutions become. This is one of the main reasons I’ve been so adamant about people running for local government office. That will begin to create the needed structure. As that structure forms, existing political figures will be drawn to it, if they see that it has the backing of large numbers of people.
All this having been stated, it is probable that we are going to see “seize the town hall and we’ll figure it out from there” type events in America in the near future. They will be put down and hopefully with that, the notion of a violent peasant uprising will also be put down.
This idea that a bunch of people in America owning guns meant that it was impossible for the government to become tyrannical has really crippled us, in that it has stopped people from taking serious, adult steps to prevent all that has been done to us, falling back instead on the idea that they couldn’t ever go this far because we could just fight them with guns.
Well, they’ve gone this far. It’s time to start thinking about actual, real life adult solutions. That starts with people getting involved in their local governments.
