White Doctor Shot by Blacks in Robbery Gone Wrong

Police are looking for suspects following a shooting that injured a doctor and another person Monday.

Dr. Randolph Neal, 49, and a 48-year-old resident were injured in an incident reported just after 7 p.m. on Mount Vernon Avenue near Virginia Avenue and Main Street.

Neal was shot multiple times and treated at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville police said. The other victim was treated and released.

Neal told police he was walking home from a meeting at Danville Regional when two black men approached him and demanded money while showing a gun. Neal was shot before the suspects fled, police said.

The neighborhood resident went outside to investigate a loud noise when he was shot by one of the suspects in the 100 block of Virginia Avenue, police said.
