A man was killed in a shooting Monday night near Orlando Regional Medical Center and Winnie Palmer Hospital.
Alex Mazzan, 20, died in the shooting, which occurred while he was walking with another man near Sturtevant Street and Lucerne Terrace.
According to police, a newer model, white, four-door Nissan with three or four men inside pulled up to the men and a verbal altercation broke out. Shots were fired from inside the vehicle toward the two men, striking Mazzan as he and the other man tried to hide between some parked cars, police said. The Nissan then fled the area.
Mazzan was taken to the emergency room and was later pronounced dead. The other man was not injured.
Witnesses said the shooting possibly stemmed from road rage, but authorities have not confirmed a motive. It’s not known how many shots were fired.
ORMC was put on lockdown temporarily until it was confirmed the shooter was no longer in the area, and the intersection of Sturtevant Street and Copeland Road was closed while officials investigated.
There were no details on the description of the assailants.
