A mother and daughter were found dead in their Westfield home Friday evening in what police are calling a double homicide. Now, investigators have a person of interest they need help identifying.

Authorities with the Westfield Police Department said they were called just before 5 p.m. Friday after a relative found two female bodies inside their home near 161st Street and Oak Park Court.

The two women were identified Saturday morning as Marylyn Erb, 52, and Kelley Erb, 23, a student at Ivy Tech Community College. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office was expected to conduct autopsies on Saturday afternoon.

Police said Sunday both women died of blunt-force trauma.

UPDATE at 11:30 a.m. Monday: Police said they have ruled out the husband and the father of the two victims as a suspect.

UPDATE at 11 a.m. Sunday: Police said the deaths were a result of break-in robbery that took place in the middle of the day sometime Friday, with no evidence of forced entry.

“During this investigation, we have identified a person of interest and would like the community’s assistance with identifying the individual,” police said of the photos attached to this story.

When the attached surveillance photos were released Sunday, investigators gave no clue as to how they decided this was a person of interest.

Westfield authorities declined to comment about the remaining members of the Erb family: the father, who lived at the home as well; a son who was away at college at the time of his mother and sister’s deaths; and another daughter who does not live at the family home.

When asked at a press conference Saturday morning if the community should be on the lookout for a potential killer, police were not committed to a specific answer. Investigators said residents should take caution when strangers come knocking on their doors.

Westfield Mayor Andy Cook said the murders were the first in the city in five years.

“This incident has sent shock waves through the peaceful city of Westfield,” Cook said.

Police said a 2011 maroon Buick Enclave was taken from the Erb home at some point. The vehicle was found a short distance away on East 161st Street.

“We’re asking that anyone who saw anyone operating that vehicle sometime yesterday, or saw suspicious activity or suspicious people in the neighborhood [call police],” said Hollowell.

Police said anyone with information on the homicides, the man pictured, or information on the driver of the Buick should contact the Westfield Police Department at 317-773-1300 or report tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477.
