Woman Fired for Michael Brown Facebook Post Says She was Fired for Something Else

Being a racist is now like being a communist or a homosexual used to be – you can just be called one even when you aren’t one and then fired and you have no ability to retaliate.

A former fire investigator in Charlotte, N.C. is currently trying to defend a Facebook comment that got her fired.

Crystal Eschert was fired from the Charlotte Fire Department after a citizen complaint that addressed Eschert’s insensitive Facebook post that referenced the Michael Brown shooting.

The post read: “If you are a thug and worthless to society, it’s not race, you’re just a waste no matter what religion, race or sex you are.”

However, Eschert thinks she was fired in retaliation for raising safety concerns on a building being used by the department.

A week prior to her firing, Eschert raised safety concerns on a building that the fire department was using, regardless of it being under renovation and unsafe for work operations.

“There was an elevator that went from the basement up and it was wooden. And when we went in the spring, it didn’t want to work too well. So we had to jump to make it function,” Eschert told WSOC-TV.

The former fire investigator also said the fences around the building had holes, which is a problem because the type of work they do requires a lot of security.

Eschert was not the only one who saw the building as a hazard, Charlotte City Council member Claire Fallon inspected the building herself after she caught wind of the safety concerns.

“I saw wires hanging down, whether they were phone wire or electric wires, I didn’t fell at that point it was safe-absolutely not,” Fallon said.
